Tuesday, I spent the day at school with my Mom. She’s a teacher at the Head Start program, which gives education, health services, nutrition and parental involvement to lower income families. Coming from her last school, this year has been a huge adjustment for my Mom. In the beginning of the year, two of her eighteen kids spoke English. The rest couldn’t understand her, and she couldn’t understand them. She has an aide who translates Spanish, but for awhile the language barrier was huge. With the year coming to an end, I came to take pictures for their end of the year projects.
It’s been good to be home. Being in Palm City always makes me feel at peace – like I’m detoxing from everything else going on in life. Spent the afternoon painting yesterday and today at the beach. The last few nights I’ve spent on the couch, watching Dancing with the Stars with my family. Not the most exciting night you could ask for, but it’s exactly where I want to be. I’ll be back in Orlando on Sunday, so I’m trying to soak up all the Palm City loving I can while I’m here.
